What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace. - Anges M. Pharo
I love that one way we celebrate Christmas is with the giving and receiving of gifts. I think it is a critical piece of healthy living to be thoughtful and considerate, and to think about what one another would enjoy and what would bring happiness. I think it is equally important to know how to receive, to be grateful, to express appreciation and to be overwhelmed by pleasant surprises.
Life is a gift and so is the redemption offered to us through the life and sacrifice of Jesus. Not only does Jesus invite us to be saved from ourselves (and God knows I need it), he also lived a life of great example. Truly he taught us to love one another—his law is love and his gospel is peace.
This morning we received a gift from my parents. It was an incredible sculpture with this quote: "Anyone can slay a dragon, he told me, but try waking up every morning & loving the world over & over again. That's what takes a real hero." No doubt, Jesus is a real hero. And today it feels good to remember the blessing of his life, and celebrate. Merry Christmas!
