"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." - Anne Lamott
I'm not great at unplugging, and in fact, I've gotten worse at it since Ryan was born. But, this past weekend, I had an opportunity to visit one of my very best friends in her new home of Puerto Rico. I made the trip with just me and the bump, and the extra-long weekend proved to be the ideal time to escape and rest. We spent lots of time by the water, in the sun, and sharing meals and conversations.
It was the perfect break from motherhood, work and the daily routine—and it was just enough time away to center myself and remember who I am, apart from all of the things that I fill my life with.
Now, as I prepare for Connor's arrival I need to remember that breaks don't only have to happen in Puerto Rico ;) They can happen any day or any time, I simply need to make them a priority. I recently read an article in Fast Company about work-life balance, and I loved the conclusion: "Honor yourself and let your needs and desires set the rhythm and pace for your life."
