As the day is winding down each evening, we often listen to music while the boys play and I start dinner. We were listing to my Regina Spektor Pandora station one night last week, when Yael Naim’s “New Soul” filled the room. The upbeat tunes inspired me to dance and sing with Connor in my arms. Ryan paused his train playing to join us, and in a moment, I had a sudden flood of feelings. I remember listening to this song when I was single, and then married, and then carrying Ryan, and I even had it on my playlist when I was in labor at the hospital with Ryan. As I danced with the boys the last six years flashed before me, and I had these crazy feelings of satisfaction and love and I thought—oh boy, how time goes by, and how it is good. For me, it is good that life goes on each day and that I have new days built on the days that came before, the good, the bad, the hard, and the beautiful. Today, life, I love you.
