For a while now I've been looking for a hobby. Something I could pick up if I had a few spare minutes. And something I could put down if my attention was needed elsewhere. I was searching for a creative outlet that didn't require technology, which meant that anything on a computer, phone or tablet was off limits. I was also looking for something that I could carry with me and would require just a few, small supplies.
Then somehow, I happened upon some really beautiful embroidery Instagram feeds: sarahkbenning, moonrisewhims, happycactusdesigns and sewandsaunders. And I couldn't stop thinking about them. And I wanted to try it out. So I searched Etsy for an embroidery kit, and I found this sweet kit from MinatureRhino. And I loved the experience. A couple of weeks after I finished the project, I wasn't sure what I should do next, so I bought some materials, made some sketches and just started free handing it. (I'm not even sure if that's what it's called.) But basically what I'm doing is working without a pattern; going with the flow, if you will.
Some might consider the process of embroidery painstaking, but I find that the slow pace and taking it one stitch at a time, is so satisfying, and almost therapeutic. It clears my mind and forces me to be present. Which, right now, feels really good.
