Better place

I realize this song is probably about a romantic relationship. But today, as I was driving with the boys, windows down, cool spring breeze blowing in—I heard these lyrics, and after being away for a week, and dwelling on all of the feelings that Mother's Day brings, I thought that the world really is a better place since Ryan and Connor were born.

These boys made me a mama and they have increased my capacity for love in a way I never knew was possible. And it's not just love for them—in loving them, I've learned to be more sensitive and generous with my love for others, too. In the story about the Grinch, they say that his heart grew three sizes when he realized the true meaning of Christmas. And not that I was a Grinch before babies, well maybe a little ;) but I do know, for sure, that every day with these boys my heart grows a little bit more.

But it feels like I've opened my eyes again
And the colors are golden and bright again
And the sun paints the skies and the wind sings our song
It's a better place since you came along

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there. And for those of you who aren't moms, thank you for loving us and our our children, through it all. We could not do life without you.
