As I've started learning hand embroidery over the past couple of months, I've noticed that I'm thinking about the world differently. I'm seeing new colors and lines, shapes and textures that I haven't seen before. I'm discovering a relationship between things and how one thing moves or forms based on another. I'm also thinking about placement and technique. In my first original project, I learned what stitches are comfortable for me. I also learned things about process, like use shorter pieces of thread and cut and knot, if you're moving to a new spot on the fabric, rather than wasting thread by pulling it across the back. As I think about future projects, I'm thinking about perspective and topic, and I'm wondering, what is the story that I want to tell?
